Sorting Game is a simple word puzzle game: Each game, a number of items are picked from a number of categories. You have to match them with items from the same category. If the match was successful, the items merge together. Once every item in the category has been merged, the name of the category is revealed. Finally, once no further matches are possible(and thus all items have been sorted into their categories), you win the game.

Sorting Game is highly configurable: While this version of the game comes with many large categories already, it is also simple to disable unwanted categories, change how many categories/items are chosen each game, or even add your own custom categories!

Custom categories: To add a new custom category, simply make a .txt file with a list of the items in that category, with one item per line of the file. Then place it in the 'categories' folder near the Sorting Game executable. Either place it inside an existing folder there(like mathematics, music, or television), or in a new folder there, if none of those seem to fit. Then, when starting the game, the new category should be available(Check the 'Toggle Categories' menu for it to be sure!).

Ideas for new categories, or even pre-compiled .txt files containing new categories, are welcomed!

Credits: The concept builds off of the Sorting Game website by Victoria Danclan(https://victoria.danclan.com/the-sorting-game.html). (Which in turn builds off the 2025 version by Thomas Colhurst). The categories themselves were compiled mostly with the aid of various wikis. See the attached COPYRIGHT.txt file for a more detailed breakdown.
